Sun Ra is an important pianist, composer and innovator in early avant-garde music.  He is strongly rooted in jazz, but plays by his own rules.  He is also known for his powerful stage theatrics and claiming to be from Mars.  The intentionally sloppy horn arrangement in the following clip gives this standard jazz rhythm a new sound:
